Database Move
My host informed me that our database server will be migrated to new hardware today. While this should be seamless, there's a chance that new posts made today may not be retained. There is also a chance of a short 5 to 10 minute downtime. Note: This does not affect the game servers in anyway. Only o...

How is the updated forum behaving?
Now that it has had some time to settle in: How are the updated forums doing? Everything working as expected? Any problems? Any new friends complaining they can't figure out the Q&A during account registration? Any style, smilies, stock avatar requests from https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/sty...

Re: What I do here, and why I do it. (Donation info)
Worked on the donate page a little bit. Its full of a bunch of placeholder text for now and I would like to add more options to contribute, tip, or gift as thanks. Right now, it contains the PayPal link that we've always had, and three of my Amazon wishlists. I'm torn on adding info about sending mo...

Re: Scheduled Website Downtime: Completed
Welcome to phpBB 3.1 I have defaulted everyone to the subsilver2 style that was updated to work with phpBB 3.1. However, that style does not utilize some of the features possible in 3.1. If you would like to change to one of the two installed prosilver styles, you may do so in the User Control Panel.

That was... dare I say... relatively painless.
Going to schedule the website downtime to start at 2pm Eastern tomorrow, September 15th.

Re: Upgrade to phpBB3.1
I am back at working on the site today, using my wife's keyboard while she's at work. Sorting out the upgrade to phpBB3.1 over on the development copy of the site. If its successful, I may schedule some downtime tomorrow to make the changes live.

Upgrade to phpBB3.1 Progress
As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I am moving us to phpBB3.1 before any further custom work to the forum side of the site. When I moved us to phpBB3.0, it wasn't clear that it was soon to be sunsetted and that no new mods would be approved by the phpBB team. That doesn't mean new mods for 3.0 wer...

Re: Website Updated to phpBB3! Finally!
Search appears truly fixed now. Sorry about it being broken for a while. I had initiated a search index rebuild a while back and just assumed it worked without testing it. CD alerted me and asked if its okay to rebuild it. Again, it must've failed to work. It is now set back up properly.

Anyone? Is it time to have a contest to create a new one?
Re: Anti-Spam
The forum and WIKI have gone 3 whole days now without spam bot activity. This makes me happy.

Re: It's dead Jim...
A cheap one? Not much. The direct replacement (I have always loved that particular keyboard's almost unnoticeable gentle curve) used to be under $40. But that model has been phased out in favor of newer versions that I do not like. I've been considering taking the plunge and going mechanical but tha...

It's dead Jim...
Well that's it. My keyboard is fully dead this time. No reviving it. Not even a spill. It just stopped. And no backups, the bluetooth one is dead too. And finally no money to order one (car needed a wheel bearing and was paid for this week). I won't be able to resume work for up to two weeks. Wont h...

Where oh where has our logo gone?
So I was looking for the original Hala logo that was on the old site and I simply cannot find it. I backed up the old forums IN FULL... yet it is missing.
Anyone have any idea where the logo went? It wasn't the same as the one on the WIKI.

Re: Heads Up to Wiki Volunteers
Got a response. Going ahead with manual install for now.
Also going to create a subforum for tracking the porting of information to the install. It'll be under the current Wiki forum. This will be the end of this thread.

Re: Heads Up to Wiki Volunteers
Progress report: MediaWiki is available as a "One-Click Install" from the webhosting company that I host all of our websites on. The advantage of this feature is that I can set it to automatically keep the software up to date, or have it notify me when an update is available. The one thing...

Re: Heads Up to Wiki Volunteers
It appears to be locked down against any and all editing. However, not being too familiar with editing pages on a wiki, I would appreciate verification if you can please.
It is now located at http://oldwiki.ysgard.org

Re: Heads Up to Wiki Volunteers
From this point on, the old wiki is no longer accessible at the original address. I have not yet locked it down, however. That will come next. After I have, I will post the link to where the old one is.

Heads Up to Wiki Volunteers
I am starting work on the wiki now. I may not reach a finished point today, but will at least have the old wiki moved to a temporary location today. The process will be as follows: Backup the file contents of the wiki. Backup the database contents of the wiki. Move the file contents of the wiki to a...

Re: Kill it
After a quick look, I think I'll be migrating these forums to phpBB 3.1 after I do the wiki replacement. That will allow the use of Google's newer "noCaptcha" that is currently pretty effective against the bots. I'll make sure to start a thread when I being work on the upgrade, since I'll ...

I'm currently focusing on setting up a new wiki with proper security for you guys. When thats done, I'll dig deeper into getting ReCaptcha(NoCaptcha) integrated here.

Re: Kill it
I had been trying to keep on top of the bot problem but have been very busy lately. Sorry about that. Quicker way to get it taken care of is to pm me. It will make sure I know sooner. As soon as I have enough time to research a better anti-bot system. The new system from Google isn't readily availab...
