...Imagine someone finally cornering a drow. Human: [Tell] *you feel something like fingers slip into your head* Drow:... Drow: "Vel'bol l' uoi'nota???" A person's surface thoughts would be in his native language, would they not? Unless he was making a deliberate effort to frame words in ...

If ESP were to allow this sort of thought theft or communication, would protection vs. alignment, which defends against mind-affecting magic, prevent it? And if so, vs. psions of all alignments, or the alignment specifically being defended against?

I see Ace's point though; if you see monsters using a spell a certain way, it seems obvious that the DM's approve of that use of the spell since they set up that encounter. And if your *character* sees a spell being used a certain way, there's no reason the character wouldn't learn from what he sees...

Obviously, a high charisma cannot make you do or believe anything. A high charisma can hold your attention while an argument is presented; it might make you *want* to believe that argument; it might sway you if you were undecided; it might even, depending on your personality, make you do something a...

Stuff in newly rented inn room chest

Moving out of the Starlight Inn for remodelling, my character rented Room 6 at the Tokuda Inn on Minya, and upon unloading into the chest discovered stuff already there: a white hood, a fake magic staff, 2 acid flasks, caltrops, and a tanglefoot bag. Can I throw these out, or does someone want to re...

Anyone remember what I thought was the stupidest statistic in the entire AD&D game? Comeliness. What, in E. Gary Gygax's world, players aren't allowed to *decide* what their characters look like? Bugged me immensely. But it did point out that beauty is only loosely tied to charisma. Look up char...

Given that players are trained by the game mechanics to interpret the red glow as hostile body language, it would make sense for a PC who is planning to set another PC to hostile, yet not act hostile, to emote along the lines of, *continues to seem calm and relaxed* or whatever demeanor is appropria...

You have just put your finger on what I hate most about playing wizards... having to try to play a character who's a lot smarter than I am! A 30-intelligence wizard ought to be able to solve puzzles in a snap and deduce logical conclusions that aren't at all clear to me, not to mention remembering t...

Of course a person does not fully control every action of a pet; who would think that they do? *cough* But do be aware that Nagritch, at least, has a "dangerous dog" law, and an owner failing to control a pet that attacks someone may face charges and the destruction of the pet.

psionicist question

I see that the psionicist prestige class lists as prerequisites 5 levels in Concentration and also the feat Iron Will. My character doesn't have these, yet the class isn't grayed out (looks like I can take it). Is it ok to take this class even if I don't have the prereqs?

two major bugs with gemcutting

Ran into a couple bugs with gemcrafting: The gemcutter teacher asks for 50 gp but takes 5k. The first time Soleis learned, there was a restart shortly after, and after the restart, his skill had vanished (even though he rested after learning and before the restart). He had to pay another 5k and lear...

problem logging in

When I try to log in today, it gets as far as "Server found. Attempting to log in." and stays there. Doesn't time out, doesn't log in. Tried it a dozen times with the same result. If I type the password incorrectly, it tells me immediately, password incorrect. Tried Ysgard and Elysia serve...

scrolls vanishing when removed from storage

Two scrolls (Shadow Conjuration and War Cry) vanished when removed from the Defenders' supply cabinet. I didn't think it was a bug, because a message came across the right side of the text block saying something like, the scroll vanishes in a burst of logical nonexistence. Pretty puzzling, though.

irrelevant OOC comment

An outsider can easily get the impression that all Viking society was democratic, because the vast majority of the written records that have come to us from oral history of pagan times are Icelandic, and Iceland was a republic in pagan times, with remarkably liberal laws for that time period (or ind...

Ok, something that requires DM intervention must be anything that requires a response from an NPC or has a visible effect that cannot be reproduced by the mechanics available, right? The thing to do is to post your actions and wait for a DM to post the NPC's reaction or visible effect, right? A meta...
