This is a script issue on the placeable so we'll get it fixed asap for you.

In the mean time, there is a gem cutter that you can carry round as well. Various PC's can point you in the right direction

The fix should be in, but it's possible the mod hadn't been uploaded. It should be fixed when done.

As an addendum to the above, while I'm not going to put a specified limit on the number of books, please remember that your PC has to be able to carry 3 sets of each book, so lets keep it reasonable.
