List of Dungeons?

Post by Idonia »

Whenever I'm bored in Hala I have to rack my brain for the plethora of dungeons we have, big, small, and out of the way. I've made lists over the years but always kept losing them. However it was always a good reference if I ever got sick of the popular dungeon runs and really helped me remember my way around, which I've kind of forgotten with all the damn ponies and ships :P

I hope making a list will help others in the same way with boredom and exploration of the old & new areas of hala. Does this sound like something you'd all want (bookmark the thread, pull it up when it's just you on the server) or is it too much FOIG info? An example of two dungeons would be: Minya Goblins/Mirtho Goblins.

I can see how this would skate the ice of FOIG but I do like the idea. On my trips to other servers I have often wondered what to do once I got there. I wonder if an in character “Traveller’s Guide to Ysgard” would be fun. This is something that if ok could perhaps live on the wiki?

I would certainly be willing to contribute writing for a project like that, but it would all need to be filtered through a senior team member.

The big question is would they be Grovley Guides or Morgan Maps.

Avlis has something similiar to that, if you guys are curious to see what such a list looks like completed (to judge FOIGy or not)

I've got no problem with an ooc list of dungeons so long as it doesn't give away location or any other information. An IC list of dungeons with more information is fine as long as its an in game book (or series of books) rather than just a post on the wiki.

I have an incomplete list, was when we had a flurry of new people or Alts and I wanted to think where Jay could take them. Would also be fairly IC for Jay to write strategy guides. Not sure if I could restrain my long windedness enough for a IC book though. :P

IG books hold a whole lot more than you'd think, so go ahead and be long-winded! Plus if it gets too long it can be a several-volume set! :D

You might want to write several guides. As Rudiki pointed out, you could do the beginner's guide for low level characters and then a mid level guide and the an epic guide.

Just an idea. :D

Okay. I'll look at my list and try to think what ones I have forgotten. At the moment it is sorted by "Maybe", "Danger", and "Hells No!" which would fit Tremayne7's groupings. Alternative I was thinking of would be geographic.

How to group things does depend though on the definition of "a whole lot more than you'd think" in actual word count. And of course where on the scale of purple prose the text would lie. Where between :

You go in the entrance. You hit things. You keep hitting things. Once everything is dead you loot and then leave.

And:

As you enter these caves you may feel a strange hush in the air. A feeling of stillness as these have been tainted by death. Around the first corner you may encounter the great lumbering forms of the first of these Minotaurs. Do not be faint of heart though as, unlike their stronger brethren below, these are not as fearsome as they look. Whatever bargain touched them with death they have gained the vulnerability of the Undead to the energy of life but not lost the vulnerability of the living to being more grievously injured by a well placed blow.

Did a search to see if I could find a post with what the word count per book should be. Only post I found didn't say that but did that "spoilers will not be permitted, so no giving away locations" which would seem to preclude sorting by location and mentioning interesting things to see in a particular place.

Better just stick to the OOC list and avoid getting nuts pulped by FOIG.

Beetles at FOIG
Beholders
Belithrax though.
Black Tower
Blackfire Orcs
Blacksteel Citadel
Broken Claw Dojo
Cave at FOIG (Goblin Village / Misty Cave / Bandit Cave)
Cave on top of FOIG
Cave south of FOIG
Caves under FOIG
Cursed Hunters in FOIG
Deadworld
Death Touched Minotaurs
Driders
Fensir Caves
Fey Queen Lair
Fire Giants near FOIG
Kobolds at FOIG
Lycans
Mockery of New Heavens
Puzzle Labyrinth
Ruined Dwarven City
Sea Devils
Section of Underdark off the Infinite Staircase
Skoria Bay
Slaads
Spider King
Spiral
White Star Mages

Probably forgotten some.

I will put together an in character guide for the team to look at. If they like it and I can keep the spoilers minimal while still being useful and interesting I will write some more and they can be added as books to find.

But IG books would be allowed to give more information because they fit the IG part of FOIG, right?

First post (which is old admittedly) says:
ALso, spoilers will not be permitted, so no giving away locations.

Last post (which is less old) says:
No spoilers (such as crafting recipes).

So IG Books cannot have spoilers and that might include locations and other details.

I don't think anyone on the team is going to be too fussy over locations so long as they are kept fairly general. "Its in the Tel area" is fine. "It's two areas south of Tel then left" it a bit much. :)

I am working on some books from Morgan's perspective that give some details about places and where they are. Once they are don I will submit them to the team for review. I am in a creative mood and actually close to finishing. The bergs books should actually be all written today, with the mainland ones later.
