On CvC

Post by NWDuneAuron »

We have some player-enforced guidlines for CvC that get you in toruble with other players for not following, and some DM-enforced rules that can get you in trouble with the team if not adhered to:

Player-enforced:
1. No looting of items except for consumables/replaceables: A weapon, a helm or a magical wand are examples of things that can't be looted under any circumstances. Things that can be looted include but are not limited to magical potions, healing kits, ammunition, crafting components, gems and scrolls.

2. Withdrawal upon defeat: If you are defeated in CvC in enemy lands you must leave the area and not come back until twenty four real time hours have passed. The only exception is if you must retrieve your gear after the incident that caused your death in the first case, in that circumstance you may come back, claim your equipment and leave as soon as possible. If you go back to enemy lands before the 24h period has passed you won't be protected by the agreement regarding looting. A example of this would be some Llolth drow kicking you out of the Drow city - don't go back there for 24 hours.

3. Some spells and tactics are severely frowned upon, such as spamming Timestops to cast offensive spells, or using Hide In Plain Sight regularly. Using such 'cheesy' tactics will often invite other players to do the same to you.
DM enforced:
4. No Bigby's Forceful Hand: This is the only spell that at this time of writing has been considered "broken" for CvC purposes due to the difficulty to resist its effects. Virtually nobody can succeed in the STR check required to avoid it.

5. Set your enemies to dislike: This is always the responsibility of the attacker and can be done as soon as right after logging in or as late as a split second before the actual attack but the bottom line is that it must be done.

5. Don't assault a city unless under DM supervision. Without a DM to put in realistic resistance, you'd be taking advantage of the NPCs' AI to make the attack easier than it should be. This applies to any sort of attack or criminal action, any applies to the Demon Temple, Mirtho Rest, Nagritch, Tel, etc.

6. No spies in the private boards of an opposing organization. A character can only spy in such a way if the DM sponsor of the spied guild knows about it. Further, all information spied must pass through this DM.

Dying during CvC:

If you are knocked to bleeding during a legit CvC altercation with another PC and that PC OOCly heals you to prevent you from death planing, you are out of the fight from that moment. It does not matter if you were recovering. You are out of the fight.

Failure to admit defeat and continue the fight after this instance will be acknowledged as a breach of the GA.

Exceptions to this rule are made on a case by case basis but there needs to be an exceptional explanation for it. The main exception will be based on player agreement. If you send a Tell to the healing player to explain that you were recovering and they accept that and allow you to continue then that is acceptable. If they disagree, then you are out of the fight.

This takes effect immediately.

NOTICE: All of the above also apply when your opponent is in Subdual Damage Mode.

If you are knocked unconscious in CvC by someone using subduel mode, you must consider it the same as if you had been knocked to bleeding... because when you are knocked to bleeding... if you look... it says you are unconscious.

On Raising/Healing:

If you are healed after being knocked to bleeding by your attacker or in an otherwise OOC mode, you are defeated and are expected to act as such.

If you are healed by friends or otherwise ICly, you are healed and may continue the fight but I expect you to at least RP that you just got the crap kicked out of you.

If you are Death Planed and your Attacker gives you an OOC raise or you walk out of the halls, you are defeated and the GA rules for defeat should be followed.
Ex: Do not come back mouthing off/reattacking

If you are raised by Friends or otherwise ICly raised, then the no returning rule does not apply and you can carry on as if you had been healed by friends.

*bump because it needs it*

Remember, Knocked to Winded is the same as knocked to bleeding. If you are knocked to winded the fight is over for you unless you are healed by a party member. (and even then it would be good to take yourself out of the fight temporarily while you regain your composure and faculties. No one can get up from unconciousness and instantly start swinging a sword.. he'd be most likely to cut his own foot off.)

The ruling regarding leaving an area for 24 hours is less enforced here. Mostly it just means to leave the area so as to end the combat and not return until the situation is no longer valid or 24 hours, whichever comes first.

Subdual mode is the default mode for CvC. It is recommended to use subdual mode unless DP is absolutely necessary (trust me.. subdual mode makes life easier on everyone since no one gets DP'd). Times when DP would be necessary include when players are not following the CvC rules. Otherwise there really is no reason to DP them.

Defacing/moving beaten characters. Defacing (permanent) may only with the other player's approval as that would have drastic effects on that player's character, thus potentially, that player's fun. Defacing that is not permanent is allowed. Moving them... again it requires the players cooperation.

If a person is beaten, they should be allowed to leave the area unless RP dictates otherwise (for instance, the character has been bound and gagged. Obviously in that case they are not going anywhere.) Be aware though, if you bind that character that character is allowed to make periodic checks to see if they escape the bindings. I will not put a static DC on that because I think you guys can handle that. Just be fair or get a DM (preferrable method)

When it comes to RP actions after a battle.. make sure that everyone is in agreement (both players involved) in situations that would have extremely drastic effects (such as throwing off a berg). Players need to come to an agreement on how it will play out. Remember, you cannot do something that will permanently change a physical aspect of a character without the player's approval.

It may be worth reminding people that these rules and the gentleman's agreement are ultimately about the GOLDEN RULE. Don't IC'ly do anything to another character that you wouldn't OOC'ly want done to yours.

Who here really wants stuff looted? Who enjoys having their character stuck in jail and unplayable? Who enjoys RPing being tied up for hours and unable to do nothing?

It may be IC to take certain actions, but before you do, stop and consider whether you would enjoy it, and if you wouldn't figure then out a way not to do it. You always have the option of allowing your character to make mistakes - fudging rope knots, missing a grapple, etc.

Most of all, communicate with the other player. So many hurt feeling over CVC can be avoided with just a tell.
