A Reminder of the Basic Rules

Read them. Follow them.

Powergaming
Yes, it's tempting to level up your character as quickly as you can. Especially of you are looking for a PrC or some special ability. However, this is a ROLEPLAY server. That means you should be spending most of your time ROLEPLAYING, not killing monsters for experience. Powergaming will get you nothing but ignored by the DMs. Is there no one one to RP with and you have nothing better to do than kill monsters? Not an excuse. You can still do other things and them post about it on the boards. Chances are, a DM will pick up on it and give you a cookie. Here's a good example: http://www.ysgardhala.org/viewtopic.php?t=2362

Camping Spawns
If you are seen powergaming in the same place repeatedly, expect to be chased out. If you continue, expect to be DP'd and looted.
http://www.ysgardhala.org/viewtopic.php?t=2898

Exploits
Notice a monster drops a +3 item repeatedly, or a merchant giving away items for free, or a monster gives an unusually high amount of experience? Report it to the Hala Team account please. People who report these things are rewarded, usually by being allowed to keep what they find. If we find an exploit and find out you knew and didn't report it, expect to be vault jailed.

Deleveling
The death system is NOT to be used to delevel your character in order to change skills and feats. If you do happen to delevel, you need to relevel exactly as your character was before.

Grief Style Play
CvC should always be IC'ly justified. If you instigate CvC, and you think the other player (not the character) may not be having fun with the situation, perhaps you should stop. It's also strongly suggested you follow the Gentleman's agreement. http://www.ysgardhala.org/viewtopic.php?t=2757

Contacting DMs
If you need DM assistance, use the DM channel, make a forum post or PM, or hop on #Hala in IRC. Don't send DM's tells bothering them with DM stuff while they are playing their characters. When a DM is playing their character, they are trying to relax. Would you like your Boss calling you at home and talking about work while you are trying to play? Same principal.

Prestige Classes
Send PrC requests along with a character background to the Hala PrC Manager account. If you send it directly to a DM, it will get ignored.
If you want a PrC then it must be justified by good RP, and you must be in good standing with the team. Powergaming to get to a certain level where you can take a PrC is not a good idea.

Last but not least, ignorance of the rules is not an excuse. Follow these rules, and use common sense and the game will be fair and fun for everyone. Break them, and expect to get a warning, vault jailed, or in extreme cases, banned.

Names may not be added, but I don't want to see direct insinuations here either.

Server Hopping

Server hopping is against the rules. It may be a long walk to get from A to B, but that is no excuse to simply log out of wherever you are and straight into the other server. This includes escaping areas.

Along the same lines, if you portal to a server and start in the 'Welcome to Hala' area, you may NOT use this to log straight into areas that your PC has never visited or doesn't IC'ly know about. If it's your first time on the server, then you can log into the main cities and go from there.

Traps

Consider this situation: You are a low level character, wandering around an area you think is safe when BAM! you are killed by a trap.

Any fun? NO

Most of the time traps only hurt those to low of level to detect or avoid them.

DO NOT trap area transitions
DO NOT trap bodies
DO NOT trap crafting placeables (but be aware that some plants are naturally trapped)
DO NOT leave traps in populated areas frequented by low level players

Doing any of these can be considered griefing.

Any time you do use traps make sure you have a good IC reason.
"My character finds it amusing" or "I was just getting people worked up" is not a good reason. Leaving traps in the path of the person you are trying to assassinate, is a good reason.

Also, make sure you stick around to RP the situation and clean up any traps that didn't go off after you are done.

As an addition to this, Caltrops are also considered traps and so fall under the same ruling as stated above.

Respect

It should really go without saying but, try and treat everyone with respect here. After all we are all here to have fun.

If a DM should happen to ask you a few questions, while you are playing, be curtious and answer them, and lieing won't get you anywhere. And putting on your caps lock and throwing in a swear word in between every other word, is not going to make anyone happy. When we ask a question, it isn't necessarily because we think you did something wrong, or are harrassing you, it may be as simple as something we noticed seemed out of place.

We aren't trying to ruin your fun if we send a tell asking a question, and we generally won't do it at an difficult moment, like you are fighting a spawn. If we do send one while you are in the middle of actively fighting, you don't have to stop in mid combat to answer, just wait until you are done with that spawn then reply. No need to die typing a response then be hateful to the DM because of it.

Like I said, everyone is here to have fun, and a little bit of respect goes a long ways. Not saying this is activly happening, just making sure that what should be a given is clearly stated.

Encumberance

Just because your 12 Strength character can walk while carrying 1000lbs of ore, doesn't mean he should. Its a bug of the system that allows a character to move while carrying enough to squash a rhino.

Its perfectly alright to shapechange in order to carry more.

If you are 50...75 pounds over encumbered, we will let it slide.

If you are caught carrying several hundred pounds more than you should, expect a DM to drop a few cursed 100lb boulders in your inventory.

*Edited by Arkon*

As a general rule, due to the current lack of Pack Animals, we will allow you freedom to overencumber yourself by 3 times your heavily encumbered status. Anymore than that and you are at the mercy of the DM that catches you.

Small Containers

Gem bags, scroll cases, key rings and various other small containers are NOT for carrying 350 ingots around in.

For those that craft, there are magic bags and ore sacks in game. Abusing the fact that the ingots are weightless and using these small containers to save inventory space will not be tolerated.

Anyone caught doing this will likely find these containers 'breaking' and their contents being spread all over the floor.
