On IC "Emote" Posts and post involving NPC actions

Post by Arkon » Thu Jun 01, 2006 12:45 pm

Players are allowed to post REASONABLE emotes on the boards. These posts can be in reference to their facial expressions and the like. They may also post information such as passing through an area as an emote.

Players MAY NOT post NPC battles as emotes. Players MAY NOT post anything involving NPC action in any way as an emote.

What this means is that I don't want to see anyone else posting Emotes on the IC boards of fights with NPCs or where the player is telling what the actions of nearby NPCs are/were.

DMs are not always around and when they are, they can't always make every NPC do what that NPC should do in a perticular situation. A city guard is not going to just stand by and watch as a huge fight breaks out just outside their gates. An NPC is not just going to stand by and watch if someone murders someone out in broad daylight in the middle of the city.

DO NOT post emotes which explain NPC actions of any kind.

Failure to follow this rule in the future can lead to a suspension of your posting rights on the forums.

Bump.

Please don't emote for NPCs or speak for NPCs or make any assumption that any NPC is going to act outside its scripted dialog.

The only time you should make a post where describing an NPC's actions or conversation is when a DM had control over that NPC (and while we don't demand that you do, its usually considered courteous to ask the DM if its ok to post that conversation).

Interaction with NPCs is encouraged but there's not always a DM around to handle things so posting that you are approaching an NPC is sometimes a good way to get things moving. Once you've posted on the forum please send a PM to the relevant DM (if any) or to the Hala Team if you don't know which DM to contact. If you don't want your actions seen in public just send the DM or team the details of who you talked to, when & where, and what you wanted to talk about. We promise to do out best to get back to you as quickly as possible.

Thanks

Remember. If you are IG and you perform an action that a DM needs to be aware of, or that other players need to be aware of. IT NEEDS TO BE POSTED IN AN EMOTE POST. If it's not posted, you cannot reasonably expect other people or the staff to know it occurred unless they were there to witness it. If it is something that would have a lasting effect, such as cleaning out stalls, then you need to post that so people would recognize said lasting effect.

Posting things involving NPCs is not against the rules. Speaking for the NPCs is, speaking for the actions of the NPCs (not controlled by DMs) is. Saying that you walked up to one and engaged them in conversation is not against the rules. Whether or not they responded to any of your questions or ignored you or just politely smiled and let you ramble is up to the team.

In the same vein it's happened a few times recently that people have made posts directed towards NPCs that the NPCs would have probably reacted strongly too. Please don't do this, especially if the situation is a hostile one. If you're going to get hostile towards an NPC, or take an action that is likely to get a hostile reaction (such as you're a known good guy walking into the temple of Hel), please get a DM first.
