New Death and Deity System

Post by Arkon »

With the end of the Trial of Geist, we have implimented a new death system as well as a version of the God code. With that, I am going to explain exactly what those systems mean and what they do.

God Code:
The god code we have chosen to go with is the Arkaz version of the god code.

What this system does is take the current caster level of a cleric/druid/ranger/paladin if they do not have one of the recognized Hala Deities in their Deity field (this being the Aesir and those who already have a recognized presence on Hala), and lower it by 4 caster levels.

This means that if you are a level 20 cleric, for the purposes of this code, you will be recognized as a level 16 cleric.

Now. What this SPECIFICALLY means is that you will find yourself unable to cast spells that are too high of a level for you. A level 20 cleric can cast all spell levels, a level 16 can only cast up to level 8. So a level 20 cleric affected would not have access to the level 9 spells.

This system does NOT affect the number of spells known, the damage that the spells put out, or the DC of the spells you cast. You will still get the # of spells, the Damage modifiers, and the DCs of a level 20 cleric.

Also, if you have metamagic feats, you will be able to fill those spell levels that you would know at your level but don't do to the code, with metamagic spells and you WILL be able to cast those spells.

Death System
With the new death system we have implemented the following penalities will apply when someone is brought back from the Halls of Ysgard. This system is based on the deity of the caster, and the method of raising. These penalties are on top of the normal penalties applied when dying, and a soul shard will not stop them.

Code: Select all

Class 1 - The caster is a follower of the Aesir

resurrect no penalty
raise dead -1 penalty to all ability scores

class 2 - The caster is a follower of a deity who resides on Ysgard but is not one of the Aesir

resurrect -1 penalty to all ability scores
raise dead -2 penalty to all ability scores

class 3 - The caster follows a deity who does not reside but has strong influence on Ysgard

resurrect -2 penalty to all ability scores
raise dead -3 penalty to all ability scores

Class 4 - non accepted caster - Caster worships a foreign deity
resurrect -3 penalty to all ability scores
raise dead -4 penalty to all ability scores

Class 5 - item or scroll
resurrect -4 penalty to all ability scores
raise dead -5 penalty to all ability scores

Class 6 - Walking out of the death plane
-5 penalty to all ability scores
Now, this is not as bad as it sounds. The effects of the death penalty will only apply to those who the death code normally applies to based on their level. Those under level 5 will not be affected.

Also, the affects of the death penalty can be removed by a Greater Restoration spell cast by ANY caster or item. All high clerics in ALL temples will be given Greater Restoration as a spell they can cast when someone asks for healing.

The flip side of this is that the penalties can ONLY be removed by a Greater Restoration.

Hope this helps clear up any questions that people have.

Keep in mind, these systems are a work in progress. If you notice a bug let one of the staff know immediately. Also, there may be fluctuations in what does what as we look at the balancing aspects of the two systems so you may see some changes in the upcoming days depending on how things look.

Thank you :)
