Ysgard goes live again (ish)

Post by Nastr0nd »

YAY!

Ysgard (and Hala) has been upgraded to allow logins while the master server is unavailable. Players will now need to set and use an Ysgard password before they can play. You will need 1 password per GSID you use. When you now log in you will be told you have 60 seconds to enter a valid password. The first time you should set the password using the following command:
!pwset yourpassword yourpassword
Note: You will need to type your password twice.
On all subsequent logins with that GSID you can enter the password with the command:
!pw yourpassword
Note the ! before the commands. This is a simtool command so remember to type it correctly. No one else will be able to overhear your password if you do this.
You can change your password at any time with the !pwset command.

Specialist subject? The Bleeding Obvious

Basic password security suggests you use a unique password that you don't use for other logins. While passwords are scrambled recent events have shown no system is 100% secure so use common sense.

Logging in as someone else: DON'T. The system logs all connections to the server (even if they actually don't log in as a player) and anyone who tries to log in under someone else's GSID will be banned.

It is possible to portal from and to Avlis provided you have completed PJs registration system and know you can log in there.

Ok, so I must be doing something wrong... I figured I'd try to log in, it is asking for a password, right away. How do I set one then?

you make up the password yourself.

So the first time you log in you do something like
!pwset zombie-rules zombie-rules
to set your password to zombie-rules

From then on you would need to type
!pw zombie-rules
to log in when the MS is down

This must be repeated. Yes, the passwords are encrypted - but they can still be viewed by anyone who has access to your character vault anyway. And it could be viewed by anyone should you forget the "!".

Do not use your gamespy password

Do not use your forum password

Do not use the same password you use for a bank account or credit card or anything else you wouldnt want broken into

If you accidently type in a password and forget the "!" your password will be visible in the talk chanel. Should this happen you can use the !pwset command to change your password.

Are all characters available on a keyboard able to be used; or just the alpha-numeric characters? Are they case sensitive?

Asking only because some places I've been restrict to only alpha-numeric and are not case sensitive.

What happens when you portal between Hala and Ysgard? Or can you? Just wondering.

Alpha-numeric characters only - because some characters are not recognized and because certain punctuation is recognized by simtools as commands. So, to be safe stick with numbers and letters.

It is NOT case sensitive, at least as far as I've tested.

Portalling between Hala and Ysgard works just fine.

This has nothing to do with Gamespy. Well not really. Not exactly. When you select "Multiplayer" in the game's window, you log on GS as normal. It'll tell you MS is down blablabla. Click ok, Join Internet Game, then select the server you want to log on to (Hala or Ysgard for this).

Once on the server, you will be dominated and asked to set your password. Follow the instructions above to set the password (a new one, not your GS one). After that, you should be ready to go and play and have fun! =D

... or maybe I totally misunderstood what you meant and this doesn't help at all... but it should help other peeps! maybe! =)

In theory it is possible to portal from and to Avlis provided you have completed PJs registration system and know you can log in there.

Do I really even need to stress this further? Don't do this, don't even attempt it, don't even think about it, or think about thinking about it. This isn't Nike where we "Just Do It", here it is

Avlis has a slightly different work-around in place. Has there been any confirmation that an Avlis/Ysgard (or vice versa) is viable?

I can't log in until this evening, but if nobody's tried it yet I'll try to run a few lowbie alts through (assuming there's no issue with doing that for the sake of people not getting stranded in domination limbo :P )

The validation systems have nothing to do with the portalling systems, so it shouldn't be affected. So long as you've filled in Avlis's form you should be fine to portal.

As silverdragonams said, if you have done Avlis' form for validation, portalling works fine between Ysgard and Avlis, I was able to test and confirm this last night.

On the flip side, has anyone tested the Arkaz/Ysgard portal? We're using the same verification system you all are.

The systems are not mutual, so as long as they work independently, there should be no issue.

I heard from various players that as long as you're registered on all of Ysgard/Hala, Avlis and Arkaz with the worlds' systems that portalling to and from any of those worlds works just fine.

As was pointed out, Avlis uses a different system, so make sure the GSID you're using to portal over is registered and you can actually play there. I think there's a time frame you had to be logged on Avlis before the MS went down that would allow you to log on there.... past that time frame, the system can't verify your account. For the time being, anyway.

For more info on the Avlis system, click here.

Ysgard/Arkaz portal was tested before the announcement that portalling was functional :D You will however need to set your password the first time you portal.
