This Sucks

Post by JD Smith »

I can't believe it. My niece wanted to use my computer to access the internet; so I set up a limited account for her use.

Now; my admin account is GONE. The only account that even shows up on the users account page is the new one for my niece. Not even the guest account is there.

Trying to run NWN from the limited account doesn't work. It says it can't verify the program version and suggests running the updater before trying to play NWN. Updater says Version 1.69.somethingsomethingsomething is loaded. Then it says NWN is not loaded and can't be updated.

Any clues? Either as to where my admin account went or what's up with NWN?

The NWN problem may be due to firewall settings on the new account. Try briefly turning the firewall off and logging in to check. As far as the missing accounts go the only thing I can suggest is to try booting in safe mode. You may be able to restore to a previous set of settings from there.

Thanks Nas - but unfortunately; the only account left is the limited one, and it takes an administrator account to change firewall settings.

I don't know what OS you're using but I hope that helps some.

Windows XP; luminance

And trying your suggested help has a few problems. Where it says to choose the Switch User option ... I don't have a switch user option; and trying the con/alt/del thing didn't work.

Let me google that for you!
first result from google wrote:You can change it so that people must type in their account name to log on. That way you can access the admin account.

Boot to safe mode and log in as Admin.

go to start <--- settings <--- user accounts

under pick a task. chose change the way users log on or off.

Uncheck use the welcome screen.

Reboot and it will be like a win2K login.
Apologies for the snark, I do hope it helps! :D
