In case anyone here is interested, and close enough to come to one, here's a group I've known for years, The Longship Company, Ltd, in Maryland. They're a non-profit educational organization that teaches the public and themselves, about naval craft, weapons, cooking, games and life and such in the Viking era. Originally a subdivision of The Markland Medieval Mercenary Militia (a medieval re-enactment group), they have since separated from them. They have working recreations of lapstrake-built craft that have been filmed for documentaries in period, and they are taken to various venues for display; the larger 39-foot Sae Hrafn is taken out on day and weekend voyages during the sailing season, and worked on in days of bad weather or overwinter.

I've been out on a couple voyages over the years, and could be convinced to go on more, tho it's not so easy for me as it used to be - it's a 6 hour drive one way for me. I used to stay in Baltimore with relatives, but they've since moved away (one of the reasons I haven't been on a voyage in 10 years.....). They're located on Solomon's Island in Maryland, and take the boats out on the Chesapeake Bay, the Patuxent and the Potomac rivers. They have both modern-garb cruises and full-reenactor authentic garb "cruises" - the proper garb would be needed if the crewed ship is filmed again for TV, etc.

Their voyage Schedule for the year is near the bottom. Anyone interested in going a-Viking?
