Happy Turkey Day : D

Post by Traces Of Reality »

I know I can't wait to stuff my belly with all the yummy goodness on Thanksgiving Day... especially the pumpkin pie.... mmmm...

So yeah... Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! ^^

Gotta feel a little sorry for the millions of butchered turkeys though... just look at this poor thing, I know you would have to agree!

I don't know about that, I just know that the average male shoe size in Europe is much smaller than that of North America.

The subjectivity behind a lot of holidays is fairly pointless these days. As a proportion, it's an ever decreasing number of people each year that will know the true reasoning behind them.

If you do know and wish to celebrate, go ahead. If you don't know the true meaning, but know that you get a chance to spend some time with family and friends that you wouldn't normally be able to, then enjoy that opportunity.

I don't believe in God, Jesus or anything else religious, but still wear a St Christopher because it was a gift and I still enjoy a few days off at Christmas and Easter time.

Just make the most of it :)

...... hear endeth the lesson....

Well Jesus existed, the question of belief is only if he was gods son, or a jankie. In Islam or some other religion he was accepted as a prophet, i tend towards the brownsmoke theory.

The light hurts my eyes though :)

I guess I'm a little turned off by holidays. I seem to miss the whole family concept because all I see is marketing and material crap. Christmas is by far the worst.

But good points about the whole family thing. Maybe someone can help me get into the holiday spirit by giving me stuff :)
And how is it my fault English colonists and Americans who were Americans before my ancestors even came to this country "butchered" Native Americans?
Of course it isn't your fault.
I'm a bit of a history buff. Firm believer in the phrase Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.
Not REALLY applicable here mind you but I still like to remember the good AND the bad heh.
If anything, a sign of respect for the dead.

I remember a teacher back in middle school who fed us kiddies a pile of bullshiznit on how Native Americans were nothing but savages and killed the settlers for no reason, kept some as slaves and all that crap, making the Natives look like complete villians. I knew better than to believe this load of garbage, of course but it's a shame what kind of crap some teachers teach our children these days.

What I learned:
Natives lived in peace until one day when they saw a funky object coming their way (a ship filled with white people) and they had no friggin' idea what it was and who these people were or what was going on, so they prepared themselves for battle just in case which in my opinion is rather smart and I would of definitly had a spear ready to stick through someone just in case too.

These white folk discovered the Natives and panic, start shooting and killed a pile of them which caused the Natives to believe the whities were enemies and they decided to strike back at them which caused the whities to believe that the Natives were the enemies.

Lotsa people died and of course guns and all that lovely metal that the white folk possessed were more than the Natives could handle and they pretty much lost but put up a damn good fight, to protect their families and land.

I never learned this but I'm sure there were some perverts on them ships too that felt the need to rape some of the Native American women just because they could and just because they haven't seen any females in a long time because of their long journey to America. Bullshit, that's one of the lamest excuses.

Diseases. Some of these white people brought over some germs that the Natives weren't used too and spread it to them. Not the white folk's fault though but alot of Natives ended up getting really sick and dying.

Gah, I could prolly go on with this forever but I can't, not right now at least. I really feel like going on about how much of an idiot I think Christopher Columbus was though but I won't :?

Folks, if I'm wrong about anything, do correct me because most of it is what I learned in school and from my father when I was a youngin' and sometimes you don't really learn all the right stuff. I know alot of other stuff could've been added but I didn't even really have the time to type what I typed.

As for holidays, i dont see my fammily since years so all those holidays dont matter alot to me.

As for what you wrote ToR.. yeah teachers can be complete idiots, good thing is that in germany are laws telling them that they can not teach in school anything discriminating and similar.. especialy when it comes to hitler, would they show symathy to him, they would get fired on same day.

And it sure was like you said.... + would have some indians landet in spain or englend and tryed to settle there, then they wont have lived long, while at least many of the indians did not mind sharing the land with others.... until the numbers of landing settlers started to be overhelming... ironic is that now after they won and spread they culture in so many places it will be the reason why from now on it will be geting very hard for us as our superior culture has lost any touch with the nature. I was watching today news and there came up some new problems, since the temeratures are rising many parasits that could not life in our region before started to spread rapidly and cause new unknown diseases.

Hail to the capitalismus
