Grammar

Post by charlierazor »

I just thought I should point out that some of our players are NOT from the U.S. In fact we have players from all over the world. Thus said, when reading posts, take into consideration this handicap. The fact that some write posts and you are able to understand what they wrote, is impressive. They obviously understand the English language far better than any of us can say we understand their language. I for one appreciate their effort.

Thus said, perhaps in the care of rp, try and think of the people that are writing the notes. Are their characters low intellegence? Just because they are not 100% on the grammar in the boards or in game, doesn't mean their character has low intellegence.

Perhaps judge a note based upon what you know of the CHARACTER, not the persons typing/grammar skills.

Just a thought,

I have to agree here, English being my second language as well (in a way, long story) Sometimes to much meaning is put on to ones words or thoughts, rather then intention. Benefit of the doubt can go along way sometimes.

I've come across a couple people who had sent me tells before when I kept mispelling words and I can tell when people are being friendly about that kind of thing and when they're being complete *bleep*. I'm American and I speak/write my American just fine. I'm also one of those type of people who get excited, hyper or have multiple thoughts running through my head so sometimes I might type faster than I should and not even think to read over stuff before I press the magical Enter button.

Some people need to realize too that some of us NWN freaks like to stay up all hours of the night, therefore we become handicap upstairs and do all sorts of things like accidently get ourselves ate up by monsters and type like someone who just learned how to write the English langusge.

I had people in my party that had smoked so much ... umm....stuff that they typed like a 5 year old but they're always fun to play with.

...so yeah, even those who know the English language really well can type like doody at times.

I find it pretty annoying when someone corrects someone elses grammar in game.
I say 'Have you scene the drow yet?' making an obvious typo and someone corrects me and says seen.
Can you really HEAR the difference between scene and seen?

And of course when i'm drinking, my already attrocious grammar is 10x worse, much to the dismay of the people im gaming with heh.

I for one welcome our new foreign masters, for they will have non GE food, work less hours, and have free health care. Viva la grammar!

I should add my two pence by saying that Odin is absolutely right, espescially about the thongs. And the universal healthcare. That's what I meant. *cough*

I know of plenty of people on here who don't have English as their first language but still type it a lot better than I do. I even managed this sentense without teh word 'the'... 8)
