Can your internet provider decide how and where you browse?

Post by Gregpooh »

If you live in the good ole USofA the answer may surprise you.

Hey all. If you don't know about this already, I urge you to take a look at www.savetheinternet.com and find out what Congress and the Telecoms are trying to do behind our backs.

You can also find out more info by watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5RQrxkG ... t%2Ecom%2F

As a happy member of a community run internet game (Hala) I hate to think that my bandwidth might be slashed because Hala can't affoard to pony up the same kind of money as the people over at Worlds of Warcraft.

Don't think it can happen? It will if we sit quietly and do nothing.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled entertainment.

sweet.. at first i thought its gona be something like in china where you are unable to read websites against comunismus or pro democracy etc.. but behind this is jsut another money making, after all users have to pay already for webspace and bandwight to them, or how fast they connection is, like DSL 1200 or 2000 and now some sort of "offset" connection time ? This should be actually against the contracts where you pay for your line speed.

and are your politicans really supporting it ???

Yes, the politicians are supporting it. The Telecom industry is paying big bucks in lobyists to support their own position, Basically that they should have control over what we see and how fast we see it.

The concept of 'net neurality' has been a given for some time, and was only recently overturned by court decisions. This is why the discussion is now up in the legilature.

Lest ye think that the telecoms would do nothing to upset the way the web works, consider this: AOL has ALREADY blocked its members from sending or recieving e-mails to a sight that is critical of AOL's e-mail service. Corperations will always do what they think is in their best interests, especially if they think no one will notice it. Now, I'm not down on Corps in general, but the consumer's have a responsibility to make sure their voices are heard.

It is also ironic that those corperations pushing for this law under the banner of "freedom to innovate", corperations like AT&T and Verizon, had nothing whatsoever to do with creating the internet or the world wide web. Yet now, they want us to turn control of it over to them. [/i]

Well I provide support TO AT&T, Sprint, Verizion, cingular, and hundreds of local phone / internet companies on a daily basis... I can say without a doubt they're not much on the way of brains or common sense.

The point however... is similar to that which was expressed in V for Vendetta (blatant endorsement to see this movie)

Governments should be afraid of their people, people should not be afraid of their governments.

Now here in america, we should ALL be aware that the "government" is just a smoke screen, cleverly created to hide the inner workings and underhanded methods employed to coerce us the consumer, into buying whatever "they" are selling.

I mean in reality... the government itself is a magnificent creation of free mason and rosicrucian leaders to successfully engineer a society of people who have that illusion everyone's like to call "free choice". Not only do the people in power not care what the public thinks or feels, they are doing exactly what they were intended to do, provide a stronger power base to the companies and corporations that make up societies market place so that the ever important cash flow remains in the positive. In turn, society in general feels they have the freedom to do as they please, however, between the lines is the bold statement: "BUY OR DIE"
The only way out of this yoke would be to live in the wilderness, surviving on your own, but even then you have to worry that wherever your hunting isn't a wilderness reserve and some park ranger will come trying to arrest you.

What if you found out your government was responsible for one of the most horrific events of your time, that they did it in order to encourage military advances and gain a tighter grip on the populace. In response the public handed over their willpower and freedom of speech, would you really want to know about it?
