NWN2 question
Wow there sure are a lot of announcements and stickies. Should put them in a sub forum or something. Maybe set something up so when a new announcement is posted people physically have to click on the link before their allowed to access the rest of the forum?
Just a thought.
Anyways, had a question about NWN 2 for those of you in the know. I've tried checking it out myself but I can't make heads or tales of all the info.
I'm wonderng if anyone knows what the new races on NWN2 will be, if there will be new classes or prestiege classes? Well I read that there will be new prestiege classes but I never saw what, save for a warlock.
Anyone have anymore info?
Cheers

Hopefully the NDA will be over before the game ships. I would LOVE to hear about things like how the combat works, the animations look, and if water has ripples when you move through it (Yes, heh.. I know.).

I think the "betatest" might actually continue on after the game ships. Since the game is Gold already and we're still testing (the same version, we weren't given an update) it appears we're working on stuff for the first few patches, so I doubt we can say anything 'before' that.MarkSchouten wrote:Hopefully the NDA will be over before the game ships. I'm already having reservations
From wikipedia
-All prestige classes from NWN except for the Shifter will be present in NWN2
-Characters will be limited to 20th level.
-Epic levels have been removed. Epic feats and abilities became available in Hordes of the Underdark, but this has been excluded for NWN2
-Psionics will not be implemented
-Riding will not be implemented in the initial release
-The Mystic Theurge and Sacred Fist prestige classes were planned, but later cut out due to time constraints.
When I hear time constraints I get worried. I wonder how many games shit the bed because someone didnt want to put something in due to time restraints. Now prestiege classes don't seem likea game stopping issue but hopefully this is the worst shortcut they took.
No shifter class deffinatly sucks.

The only things of that I don't like are the lack of Psionics and those PRC's. Epic Levels, nice as they may be, completely upset the balance of any PW. And riding? Where would you ride? The amount of exterior areas will have to be drastically reduced for PW's.T'Holoth Shadowborn wrote:I'm already having reservations

My first impressions of the game, just from playing with the presale toolset....
It's missing a lot of details that make Oblivion a great single player game. It's not only things like rideable horses. My biggest disappointment is that instead of being able to pick up an apple or a sword that looks like an apple or a sword, any item placed on the ground looks like a "loot bag"
. It also seems like there might be problems with other things we take fror granted now, like being able to have your PC sit in a chair or on a bench. It is possible to create seamless transitions, but as far as I can tell loadscreens are not going away. In fact, I would almost expect load times that make the biggest Mirador areas seem like they load at lightning speed.
Add to that the fact that PW's will likely have problems with managing the sheer size of any module....
At least you can almost count on epic levels and more PrC's in expansion packs - thats how they get people only interested in the SP campaign to buy them.
But, as I said these are just impressions from the presale toolset. We can hope and pray that some of this has been fixed or will be fixed in early patches. If nothing else, I have faith the NWN community will do what it does best, expanding and improving on whatever Obsidian comes up with

I'll throw out another question here as to not fill up the forum.
Has anyone given any thought to what their first character will be in nwn2? Perhaps on the online server but mostly the single player (as I'm sure the new server won't be up that fast heh).
I'm temped to take my old faithful Aasimar Paladin/Divine champion combo and just smash my way through all the infidels with.
But (and keeping in mind the level 20 cap)
I think I'm going to try a Ranger Assassin combo and try to play a scout-type character. Was thinking that or a Monk-Divine champion type deal. Might even throw together some kind of spell casing combo and usemy brain for once.
Even though it's single player I'm going to try and RP my way through it opposed to jst solving all the puzzles and leveling up. I'll consider it training for the new server
Does anyone else have any thoughs about what they might try out first?
r ideas onhow i can expand my ranger assassin, monk zelot idea?

ATM, I'm playing a straight Druid. For my first serious PW, I think that I'll either go with an Elven Fighter, or a LE/NE Wizard/Sorcerer.

I've been trying to play with a sorcerer build (heh...imagine that
) and a monk build in single player, but I can't seem to get very far with out getting bored.
I havent decided on what class I might like to play in a PW setting, but I'm pretty sure I'll be going with something rude, evil, and ugly as hell.

I think I might try the warlock too. Seems like a cheep Sorcerer knock off. I love magic my play style just sucks
After comming home and reading the manual on the way from the airport (wife bought the stragity guide) I was rather pissed off to find out only certain items are availavle in the premium pack or whatever its called. Like what the hell. I'm paying $54.99 or something but hats not enough, to get extra items and some goofy rings I gotta pay more? Thats crap.
I can't decide if I want a ranger assassin or monk assassin. Can I still use weapons as a monk? Like a Katana?

I am not sure i even want to buy the game. I always planned to wait a couple of months before buying it. But it did not get off to a good start with me when i read that dispite paying £30 for the game us Europeans get a crappy little PDF manual while the USA gets a proper manual.
Now i have spent some reading the comments on people who have actually played the game and they are almost universally bad. And dispite one computer magazine giving it 90% (what was the writer on). It seems the game needs serious patching and a lot of work by the community to make it even playable even in single player never mind multiplayer.
How is this for a bug it seems if you are in multiplayer and sombody talks to a NPC the other players can do nothing not even fight. The NPCs can of course so you just stand there while they beat you character into a pulp.
Ok i Know NWN was far from perfect when it came out so maybe it will improve in time. But at the moment i just feel disapointed and wonder why i got so excited about the game coming out.
Has anybody actually played the game, If so what do you think about it?

I haven't played it but I have seen it. I noticed little quirks just from that though. Remember however, all though NWN2 has more features for multiplayer, it is still not an MMORG, just like NWN1. It's going to be a lot of updates and individual work to turn it into what we have now with NWN. At the moment I dont even think you could run a PW off of it. It will come in time though. I myself am happy to wait for it, the idea of NWN with D&D online style graphics is really intrigueing. I myself will be buying it shortly. At the moment I see the game is awsome for doing private D&D sessions with friends. Besides, Im not ready to quit NWN quite yet.

I'm playing it, and I enjoy it. It still has a lot of troubles though, performance being one of them. Fortunately Obsidian has already showed that they're willing to support the game, because they already released two patches. So I'm hoping that all those issues will be resolved.

It's been some time since I've spent time trolling these forums, but I decided to visit again with the advent of NWN2. I miss the days of strolling through hala. It's been so long I couldn't remember my password on my old account
I just picked up the game... going to delve into it and see if it can inspire me back into role playing after my long departure.
Perhaps by the time PW start appearing... I'll be ready to once again don my story teller's atire and find a new voice.
So far I've seen mixed reviews. I'm more tolerable to bugs and other problems than most, so I think I will like it just the same. Time will tell.

So I've delved into NWN2, and I must say, it's been rather enjoyable.
Character generation is relatively the same, with the addition of some character customization. It's not as hearty as I would like to see, but it does the job. No Wemic's... I'll miss them!
Character voices are oddly familiar (They are the exact voices from NWN).
The camera view is probably the most tricky part of the whole experience, which I believe is rather similiar to NWN if I remember correctly; the camera does not orient with the character. If you're turning, your camera view is stationary. There may be a setting to change that; I haven't looked.
In one way, it gives you the freedom to navigate around and get a bearing on your surroundings. The trigger for moving the camera view is scrolling to the edge of the screen, which then prompts the camera to move. It's inverted for up and down, but side to side is the same. Use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. This of course becomes tricky in a dungeon setting where you could end up behind walls, and not able to see what's happening, but it's not show stopping. I haven't been killed because of it... yet.
The interface itself is done very well. Some similiarities, but some very nice depatures that make it much more effective.
I haven't seen any serious problems with performance locally, but going on line may change that drastically. I'll be trying that out in the not too distant future.
The characters and surroundings are not the latest in graphic technology, but they definitely hold their own. There are still some quirks with areas; I did find myself 'stuck' to a lamppost lastnight, and it took some prying to finally free myself. Compared to NWN, the terrian is much more natural and rolling; hills are not just steep inclines of grass covered plains. The whole experience in comparison to NWN is much more breathtaking.
The story so far is exceptional, as expected. Some good writers building some very interesting twists and turns. The cut scenes are wonderful.
The interaction of characters to your status that you build in the game, as well as the use of skills through interactive dialoge is also done well.
Combat is relatively the same; a little more fluid between combatants. Spells look great.
Playing the party, I've tried out several different classes... fighter; Rogue; Wizard, Monk, all which are similiar in play style to NWN, just better looking graphics and detail.
The next few weeks I'll try connecting on line and see how that goes. After that, it will be time to delve into the toolset and see what I can come up with.

Ok here is a cool tid bit. Slogth(Vildur) was looking at the mod in the toolset. It seems this is not hard coded into the game and neither is the full party transitions. They are simply coded into the module. There are options in the toolset for forcing party transitions. Merchants and NPCs have similar options. I think the intro mod was built rather quickly (storyline was probably written for awhile but mod was peiced together at the last min). I kind of get the impression that they wanted show off all of the new games features, to show people what they can do with it.albonia wrote:How is this for a bug it seems if you are in multiplayer and sombody talks to a NPC the other players can do nothing not even fight.
