Detect evil is broken

My Paladin when trying to use detect evil with his class "rod" (har har) isn't able to detect evil. I've tested it on evil PCs and NPCs and it does not give a reading.

Is this fixable?

I've tested this and it works fine. I will also note that the prestige class ablity for it also works on the radial menu.
