How do you pronounce that?

Post by ChukchiDog »

Gildan is pretty easy, but is it LAT-imer, or Laddy-MEIER? Is it THULE-oth or Ta-HOLE-oth? Etc. How do you pronounce your character's name?

I always pronounced T'Holoth's name... T (just a T sound with your tongue, like you're tonguing a note) and then "Holl-auth" T-Holl-auth"

Lily is, well, pronounced just like the flower.

Eirwyn? No it's not Ear-win. I pronounce (*coughwantitpronounced*) it Ire-win.

Soleis? So-lay-is. Or is it So-lie-iss?

Who's that guy who's always pimping ladies again? I can't remember his name... I want to say N- something.

Seamus? I pronounce... Sea-muhss.

Elly is L-E. Unless this whole time it was supposed to be Ee-lie.

So'Riatin I pronounce So-Rye-ah-tin. Vilmiathien is Vill-me-ah-thee-in.

Who else is theerree... just ask. :P

Thank GOD I get to explain how to pronounce Scel's name.

Sceluscio Potementia
The proper way to pronounce it is:
Sell-ooh-shee-oh Poh-teh-men-shee-ah (like dementia)

Some people "simplify" his first name as:
Sell-ooh-see-oh (without the "sh" sound)
That's also fine.

Regarding some of the names already mentioned, I pronounce them as follows:

T'Holoth - I'm lazy, perhaps, and just pronounce it as two syllables Tho-loth (the "th"s sound like "thirsty" not "the", the first "o" like "oh!", and the second "o" sounds like the "au" in "autumn".

Soleis - Two syllables, "So" and "Lace".

Seamus - Two syllables, "Shay" and "Muhss".

So'Riatin - So-Ree-Ah-Tin

Seamus = "Shay-mus, like Sean = "Shawn"

Of course, if your accent is heavy and your pronounce Sean "Seen" then its probably "See-mus" =)

see, now I woulda pronounced Seamus as Shar mus, soft ahhh sound.....

and Redda is "redder" in my minds ear, but then after living in Canada and pronouncing that Can ner der.....I might be thought to be a little bit too much of a Brit to be able to say the "ah" at the end of those sounds.

Manathor is Manna Thor

Seron (remember her?) is Sair( like air) ruhn

and.......I always thought it was Scel was "Skell".......dang! I don't think I can change it now.....

In't language wonnerful?

No.. I pronounced Sceluscio

"Duh, Mass"

As for My peoples..

Ryk, Pronounced as Rick.
Rykolyn, "Rih-co-lin"
Rilyndar, -"Rihl-lee-in-dahr"
Xai, "Sigh" or "Shy" or even "Kz-ai" or "Zhy"
"No, not Chai or Why" I know it's incorrect, You'll live.

The rest were pretty straight forwards.

Though
Vilmiathien So'Riatin,

Best for last.
