new post notices
Suddenly I no longer am getting the yellow folders to indicate new postings versus the blue folders for read postings. Has anyone else noticed the same? I didn't change anything on my end; and I was wondering if there is any way to get them back.

My first impulse was to ask you if you were logged in. Obviously you are, or it wouldn't have posted in your name.
Other than that, all I can say is that it often marks things as read when I look at the index and then go somewhere else. It doesn't seem to care that I've not actually read all the individual posts.

I usually log in 1 time a day; read through what used to show as having new content ... PM someone, maybe; then log out. And I have not seen any yellow folders since last wednesday.

Never needed to hit any button before to highlight any new posts.
And; I have no clue where to even find cookies. I have a problem on another forum that I log in; go to the furums index; open the in character pages ... and then I get told I need to log in to read those pages. They also said something about cookies there .... but I have yet to find cookies. Where would I look to clear internet history?

look in tools or options (of the browser) whichever it says for those, somewhere in there should be a button to allow you to delete temporary internet files and cookies and such. Clearing those can sometimes eliminate these problems. Basically what is happening is that there is a cookie or something in your browser that is telling the site that you've been there recently so nothing is new.
