I don't know much yet about the wiki either, but I used the template provided and simply typed over the info I wanted to change. You can copy/paste/edit it too I am sure:

I will not, but I will give you instructions. Posting them yourself is something you're going to want to to, particularity so you can edit them when they need updating.

Step Zero: Create an Account!
You can do this by hitting the link in the upper right hand corner of the screen when you get to the wiki.

Step One: Create a page!
Do this by making up a URL to go to

Where you replace the red text with your character's name. It will tell you the page doesn't exist, and give you the option of creating one.

Step Two: Use a Template!
The one ambrosia has works pretty well. Here is the one I use. Replace the red text with your own. You can just replace it with plain, ordinary text, like you were filling out a form or something. Just copy this and paste it into the box you get for editing the page.

Step three: Hit the preview button!
Hit the show preview button, just to make sure it's the way you want it. Tweak errors, then hit the save page button.

At this point you will have a page. I am willing to put up a link to your character's pages on the Character's Page, but you have to do steps 1-3 on your own first.

These steps are not necessary, but may help those who want to do more with their page.

I want to post a link on my character's page to another character's page, or perhaps to a deity's wiki page. How do I do this?

Find the page you want to link to and look at the URL. For example, if I wanted to put a link to my character's best friend Nerice, I would look for her url, and find the following. I have put the important part in red.
http://wiki.ysgard.org/index.php?title=PCs:Nerice_Bloodforge

To make a link to that page, all you have to do is use that part in red and put some square brackets around it like so

[[PCs:Nerice_Bloodforge]]

That will produce a link like this: PCs:Nerice_Bloodforge

However, maybe you don't want it to say PCs: before her name, or maybe you want it shorter: just "Nerice". In that case, you're going to want to add in an extra bit after what the page is called to let it know what you want the link to say:

[[PCs:Nerice_Bloodforge | Nerice]]

Will produce a link that looks like: Nerice

How about links to things that aren't on the wiki? For example, my character's journal.

First, again, you'll want to find the URL of the link. For example, Arcanen's journal is here:
privmsg.php?mode=post&u=111

All you need to do is copy that URL, and put it in a single set of square brackets. Then, put a space after the URL, and type what you want the link to say:

[privmsg.php?mode=post&u=111 My Journal]

Will produce a link that looks a little like this: My Journal

External links have a little icon next to them that says they link to a page outside the wiki, but the wiki will automatically generate this for you so you don't even need to worry about it.

I want to post a picture of my character! How do I do this?

Step Zero: File Preparation
First, make sure your picture is in a format web browsers will accept (jpg, png, and gifs are all quite acceptable.) Also make sure the picture is the size you want it, and that the file size isn't huge (do try to keep it to 250 kb or less, if you can help it).
Also, attempt to post only pictures you have the copyright permission to post, and make sure they're something you wouldn't mind your kids seeing.

Step One: Upload the picture
Go to the wiki and look for a link on the lower left hand side that says 'upload file'. This is under the 'toolbox' heading. Click on it.
You will have three things to do here;
Source filename: has a button choose file, which is what you should click on and find the file on your desktop with.

Destination filename: What the file is to be called- don't forget to keep the extension of the filename here (.jpg, .gif, .png)

Summary: If people view this image on its own, this is what they will see for the description.

One you've dealt with all three of these, click upload file.

Step Two: Including the picture on your page
All you really have to do to get the image up is edit your page and put in this line of text:

[[Image:File.jpg]]

Where file.jpg is replaced with whatever you called the file in the destination filename. However, sometimes pictures can block text or do other annoying things....so I tend to use this:

This will get you the cute little box to the right with your image inside and explanatory text under it, much like on Arcanen's page.

A final note: it may be tempting to put a ton of pictures up of your character, but please try to limit how many pictures you have; use it to accent the text on long pages and provide an image of what your character looks like, display logos for your guild/deity, etc. Just don't get carried away! Use in moderation!
