My apologies to the people who were expecting Jayem. I hope that you did not wait too long for him.
After years of not having had any trouble with trojans or viruses I have had a bad week. I managed to fix one in time for Jayem and Egil to sit in near silence at the Tower of Iron Will but the following night as I was about to go to bed I had something crash through the (freshly installed and updated) protection.
I think I have managed to kill it but the repeated scans with various programs have taken a lot of time and in the fight I, or it, managed to kill my internet connection as collateral damage. And in trying to solve that with uninstall/reinstalls I got it so the old driver won't uninstall and I can't reinstall.
Fortunately shops are open on Sundays now and I could buy a Mobile Internet Dongle to plug into my internet-virgin laptop for finding solutions, downloading programs, and making apologies here.
Hopefully my plans will go well but even if they do I'd not be around again until late today or tomorrow. 3 hours for that program's full scan or 6 for that one's does add up rapidly, as I have found.
Apologies to people

apologies
hope senath provides an excellent plan for making things all better very soon!
3 hours and 6 hours… Kaspersky took 15 hours the first time, though that did include some waiting for me to come back and agree it should delete things.
Repeated scans took me up until Tuesday morning where I nearly posted here before I found after a Windows Update suggested reboot that my internet connection had broken again. Has been rather a lot of updates since part of what I’d done was use my installation CD to revert to older clean files. Rather a lot of updates on the laptop as well and I found I should have bought the dongle with 3GB of data allowance preloaded. Would have been the same price as the one with 1GB plus the extra 1GB I had to purchase, but 3GB rather than 2GB…
Had Internet Explorer and Windows Installer break during fixing the internet connection again, but fortunately the first solution I found via laptop and dongle was simple and worked so was able to reinstall IE. Unfortunately as I continued with the Updates the internet connection broke again and although my anti-virus software appear to have downloaded and reinstalled successfully it was at 0% progress and had checked 0 files when I left it running while I took a long nap. Then it was refusing to even install and each attempt took a good half-hour of download and install time. That I was having to keep resetting my TCP/IP settings and having such a lack of luck with reinstalling my anti-virus software seemed suspicious so spent more time on scanning and found my desktop had either still been infected with something or had been reinfected.
Even when I was confident again that desktop was clean the anti-virus still would not reinstall. Tried a program from that company that was supposed to ensure the anti-virus software was completely uninstalled but that was giving an error and looking at how the anti-virus install program was failing it did seem to be the same cause of being unable to remove or overwrite existing files. So I searched the registry and hard drive for references and files and found quite a lot and deleted everything I found, even if required yet another tool to overcome the “access denied” messages. I was rather worried I was doing the doing equivalent of using a sledgehammer to MAKE something “fit” but reassured when the “uninstall” program worked without giving the error. Then the anti-virus software, which was what I was trying to connect to reinstall back on Sunday, did actually reinstall and did actually do something while I snoozed.
I think things are fixed. I did have to reset the TCP/IP settings once today but those seem to have stayed fixed and neither the full scan with my anti-virus software or the scans (before and after resets and before and after the times I have connected to the internet today) with the Microsoft Safety Scanner or MalwareBytes have found anything. Now it is time to log in and Jayem say hello to Egil.

Due to a sudden change of schedule Akai and I may miss or be late to the event today. We'll try to get there as soon as we can. Also Lexy will have to catch Morgan another time, hopefully soon; It's important!
Sorry!
