Gamespy uh oh

Ok I am currently trying to figure out if what I have heard is true, so at the moment this is speculation on the part of the gamespy community that I have spoken to.

Apparently, the people who own gamespy did an audit. It showed a lot of games were published on gamespy that had not renowned* their fee's. So far SWAT 4 and NWN have been mentioned. (Some saying that the people who now own the rights to NWN are the people who made Bualders Gate Enhanced, but Im not 100% sure that is correct)

What this boils down to, if it is true, and I am in no way saying it is, but if it ~is~ you will no longer see lists of servers when logging into gamespy via NWN.

You will still be able to use favorites, History and direct connect.

But thats the main problem, ~you~ (the existing player base) can still log in.
New players will no longer see server lists and therefore will need to find other means of finding a PW to play on. A google search of nwn role play server doesnt see Hala mentioned in the first few pages. I havent checked our current standing on NWN Vault.

No need to spread DOOOOOOOOOM and panic yet, it could be a temporary thing, but if it isnt, it may have just gotten harder to attract new players.

ANyway Im sure someone knowledgeable can shed more light on the whole thing,

yes I noticed today that the server lists were not up, I was able to direct connect and use favorites though.

Yes nothing in gamespy no servers listed. Thanks for the info nwnblondy.
I tried logging into Hala by direct connect but i get a can not translate address message. If i go into history the only servers i see are Elysia and Arkaz. So it looks like Hala and Yasgard are off line/unreachable.

A question if i try direct connect it asks for a password do i need one and which password is it.

if there is no PW on the mod, you can just leave the PW field blank

In case you all didn't know, Bioware is now owned by EA Games. They are kind of jerks now in the Customer Service area.

If none of the servers are showing up, then if something changes those changes need to be posted for direct connect.

This is a good time to add shortcuts to your desktop for your favorite servers if you haven't already.

Open Notepad

Enter the following line:

nwmain.exe +connect nwn.ysgard.org:5123

Save the file to your NWN directory as Hala.bat (for those who are unfamiliar with notepad, like me, you have to type in the ".bat" part in notepad and leave the "Save as Type" field blank or as "All files" or else you end up with a text file).

You can then create a shortcut to the .bat file and move it to your desktop for easy access.

Repeat the process for all of your favorite servers replacing "nwn.ysgard.org:5123" with

nwn.ysgard.org:5124 for Hala
server.arkaz.com:5121 for Islands
server.arkaz.com:5122 for Iron
server.arkaz.com:5123 for Toloria

A long time ago (in 2008 according to my program), Arkon helped me set up something called "nwn.bat" which sits on my desktop and lets me log into the game and go directly to any of the copap servers without seeing the pop-up windows. I can't find a thread with directions. Maybe he (or someone else who has one) can bump it or start one?

Ill write a little script and post it here, will let windows folk use a drop down box to select a server to connect to.

Wont work on a mac, but ill have a look into that and se what I can do to convert it.

This only works if you edit the following line to point to your own NWN path, the folder where nwn.exe sits.

Well I made a beautiful script. Spent a while to figure out how to launch NWN properly and finaly cracked it. However... NWN prompty crashed

I was so sad and didnt bother to script events for the Avlis MS and the toolset. Anyway if you would like to try it and see if it works for you, or perhaps even try a different way here is my code. Copy and paste it into a text editor and save the file as NWN.hta. Oh, windows only. Also, it doesnt rotate log files yet. I was planning it but now im all sad and my toys are out of the sandpit.
