Running NWN in Windowws 7

I have been trying to get NWN to run under windows 7 without success.

At the moment it installed with no problems and updated ok but when i try to launch it i just get a crash back to the desktop. There is no error message of any kind it just starts to load then crashes back to the desktop.

I have installed other older games and they run without a problem Anybody who uses Win7 have any ideas what the problem is?

I have Windows 7 and never had a problem with NWN running. Make sure you are running it as and administrator. When you right click on the game icon and check the properties, look under the compatibility tab. See if its running in compatibility mode for Windows XP, and see if the boxes for disable visual themes, desktop composition, and display scaling are all checked. I don't know if any of that will help, but it might.

check your nwn.ini for things like in the [Display Options] section:

AllowWindowedMode=1
FullScreen=0

That helped me along with the compatibility mode and running as admin

Anyone has tried Windows 8 yet?
Does NWN work with it?

Haven't updated to Win8 yet, but planning on it. Eventually.

I have had no problems with Windows 8, Moony. It loaded right up and I didn't have to adjust anything except the resolution! A truly pleasant surprise.

That worked thanks still new to Win 7 and still learning

Also make sure you have NWN properly patched. The latest patch (1.67b or something like that. Not certain) addressed some legacy/compatibility issues with Win7 x86/64bit systems.
