Rules For Scrying
Ok, I think it's time that this be brought up. There are a number of things that need to be said about this ability.
It's broke. It lets you see anyone who is on the server, whether you know them or not. As such, some rules will be layed down regarding it.
#1 You can only scry someone who your character has personally met.
#2 If you scry someone and they are shapechanged, shapeshifted, changeling shapeshifted, whatever... Your character will consider the spell to have messed up. Reason for this being, in D&D, scrying can be blocked, in NWN it can't.
#3 If you scry someone (IE a changeling, shapeshifter, etc) and they are in a form that you do not know that person is in... you do NOT ICly know that they are a changeling, or whatever... refer to rule #2
#4 Scrying as per D&D can take a lot out of the caster.. so repeatedly casting it is not only cheesing.. it's annoying as hell. So don't do it.
#5 Scrying may only be conducted in safe locations or in locations where it is resonably considered that the person would be able to do so unbothered. In D&D, if the scryer gets distracted by so much as a sound, the link is broken and the scry is gone. So no scrying in the middle of a battlefield, in a crowd of people, etc.
More may follow as things develope. We'll see

I have a question about the druid scrying, the spell description says that a natural pool of water is requiered to use it and it did not seem to work with lakes and such, so i take it some special location needs to be found ?

Well, considering how easy it is to scry and that it can just be done over and over if they fail, also the potentially character destroying effect that come from it, the DC should be lower to be honest.Fredegar wrote:Curious if the DC on scry can be increased to represent the fact that we are familiar with the person we are scrying?
As it stands any high level character is near immune

how about adding a 2 tier system to the scrying DC. A set DC as is now with the RP rule for scrying people you don't know, and a second tier system set up by use of an item, that sets someone as "well known" to the caster. Make the use of the item obvious so that it can't be done secretly and set down a server rule that it can only be used on someone with their prior consent. This can be used to allow you to scry on your friends easily whilst keeping it hard to scry others.

I think a spell description might help with roleplaying that spell out

Scrying
Divination (Scrying)
Level: Brd 3, Clr 5, Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 4
Components: V, S, M/DF, F
Casting Time: 1 hour
Range: See text
Effect Magical sensor
Duration: 1 min./level
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes
You can see and hear some creature, which may be at any distance. If the subject succeeds on a Will save, the scrying attempt simply fails. The difficulty of the save depends on how well you know the subject and what sort of physical connection (if any) you have to that creature. Furthermore, if the subject is on another plane, it gets a +5 bonus on its Will save.
Knowledge.....................................................Will Save Modifier
None................................................................. +10
Secondhand (you have heard of the subject)........ +5
Firsthand (you have met the subject)................... +0
Familiar (you know the subject well)..................... -5
1 You must have some sort of connection to a creature you have no knowledge of.
Connection................................................... Will Save Modifier
Likeness or picture................................................. -2
Possession or garment............................................ -4
Body part, lock of hair, bit of nail, etc....................... -10
If the save fails, you can see and hear the subject and the subject’s immediate surroundings (approximately 10 feet in all directions of the subject). If the subject moves, the sensor follows at a speed of up to 150 feet.
As with all divination (scrying) spells, the sensor has your full visual acuity, including any magical effects. In addition, the following spells have a 5% chance per caster level of operating through the sensor: detect chaos, detect evil, detect good, detect law, detect magic, and message.
If the save succeeds, you can’t attempt to scry on that subject again for at least 24 hours.
Arcane Material Component: The eye of a hawk, an eagle, or a roc, plus nitric acid, copper, and zinc.
Wizard, Sorcerer, or Bard Focus: A mirror of finely wrought and highly polished silver costing not less than 1,000 gp. The mirror must be at least 2 feet by 4 feet.
Cleric Focus: A holy water font costing not less than 100 gp.
Druid Focus: A natural pool of water.

As far as I know this hasn't come up in game yet, but I was curious. What happens when you scry someone who is in disguise at the time? Is it best to assume the spell failed, or can you assume the spell worked and you see through the disguise?

Scrying exists in NWN?
