Those who Pickpocket

Post by Traces Of Reality »

I figured I would put this up since I didn't see anything in the Rules section about this.
Pick-Pocketing: When picking pockets, be sure you only take things that are small (one or two inventory spaces) and light (less than 5-10 pounds). If you do take something that should not have been taken reasonably, send the player an ooc tell, letting them know you would like to return it to them. Make sure they know that the exchange is ooc because the item should not have been taken anyway. While the pickpocket tool should clear all this up, it's important to keep track of this until it is fully implemented.

If they were planning to sell the item and they can't do that now (since items picked are tagged as stolen) offer to sell the items for them. Head down to the tunnels and sell the item for the best price you can get, and give the player all the money you got for it. Its more than they would have recieved up top and this should go toward smoothing over the whole situation when they get more than they expected.

No double-dipping. If you successfully pick a character?s pocket, do not go back for more. Leave that person alone for a few days.

I've had armor between 35-50 lbs pickpocketed before which is rediculous. Only a complete moron wouldn't notice an extream weight change in their backpack.

If you successfully pickpocket something that shouldn't have been taken, don't hesitate to send that person a tell and returning it. A couple honest people on Avlis have actually sent me tells and returned my things and I thanked them everytime for their honesty. You'd be suprised how thankful some of us are for having our things returned to us.

((this rule does apply to Hala too, yes?))

It IS silly that you can PP a suit of armor.

I figure treat pick pockets like looters if they take anything other than gold or trivial items

What is the situation regarding keys? I accept a key could be taken without you noticing it. Hopefully keys can not be pickpocketed but if they can be there is a very large can of worms there if it can happen.

People will be asking for house locks to be changed or asking the DMs for replacement keys. And you are bound to get some idiot who thinks it cool to open a chest and take sombody things out of it.

DM's can make your keys plot/no-drop.

Some keys can be pickpocketed but I believe it's against the rules for someone to keep another person's key and loot their chest.... also a great way to get yourself banned unless it's alright to do that on Hala but I highly doubt that it is.

Use common sense if you decide to pickpocket.

Yuppers, Rogues aren't the only ones able to put ranks in Pickpocket.

Not that they would be lame but if you're gonna be a thieving mofo like that, you may as well have at least a couple levels in Rogue and besisdes, I wouldn't waste any ranks in Pickpocket because those ranks would be way more usefull in other areas.

What do we do IC if we find somebody tying to pickpocket us is it a slap on the wrist and tell them not to be naughty.

Or is it termination with extreme prejudice

Just wondered

A char of mine actually tried lying and saying she was only trying to cop a cheap feel when she was caught.... failed miserably on my Bluff check though but it ended up being fun.

Is it even possible to pick pocket another player? I use to be able to do it on avlis but I have a rogue in hala and when I look I don't see the option available to pick pocket another player. NPC sure but not another player.

I believe so because my lowbie's armor was looted from her in White Wood. I had sent a tell to a buddy that was in my party and they mentioned someone possibly looted everyone in our party which annoyed me.

If that IS true and my armor didn't somehow just ~vanish~ from my inventory, it's pretty crappy. If you have a good amount of ranks in Pickpocket, dammit... don't abuse it.

If I had a Pickpocket of 20 or more, would I loot an entire group of people? Nope, just 1 or maybe 2 people.

Using that skill to steal from every character you come in contact with is a load of crap and I'm sure it's one way to be added to the Watchlist.

Hmmmm then how the heck do you do it to another pc? It can't be in the same place on the radial because I can pick pocket an npc but the option isn't there when i click on a pc.
