Drow, Surfacers and CvC

Post by DM D'Artagnan »

As you all have noticed, there has been an increase in activity by the drow as of late. This goes for the pc's and npc's alike. I have been trying to breath some realism into this situation by creating tension and conflict between the drow and the surfacers, however, I feel now is a good point to stop and share what this means to all of us.

1. Role Playing
Hala is an rp server, always has been always will be. This conflict does not give either side Carte Blanche to run around CvC'ing everyone and anyone without roleplaying the situation. The reports I'm hearing confirm that this has indeed been happening and it needs to stop. Roleplaying a situation is 100x more fun than the actual combat itself, so stop and smell the roses.

2. Staying IC even when a dm isn't watching
If you're not welcome into an area when a dm is present, then you are certainly not welcome there when a dm isn't present. What does this mean? It means don't go to any area that is off limits without some sort of disguise or means of being invisible on you at all times. To do otherwise would be exploiting the game engine limitations and would be poor roleplay.

3. Have fun!
Remember, the whole point of playing this game is for everyone to have fun! Following the rules and obeying the Gentlemans Agreement will increase everyones fun in the end. Not everyone wants to be involved in this conflict and it's their choice whether or not to partake. If you have any questions feel free to pm me or another team member.

That's it for now!

One more thing in regards to the CvC aspect of all of this.

EVERYONE has a choice about whether or not to be involved in a CvC situation.

If you come across someone in your travels that you want to CvC, they reserve the right to walk away unless the situation and the RP dictate otherwise.

Example: X drow hates all surfacers and comes across a lone surfacer and wants to kill them. X drow makes this known (by setting hostile, by saying "i'm going to kill you surfacer" whatever). Surfacer Y has the following options... Fight, or Flight.

Ideally if the person being attacked wants no part of CvC, they would tell the other player as much through Tells and this would be acceptable so long as it was done in a respectful manner.

As such the two could RP a "Chase" where the Surfacer runs and the drow chases for a while until they get bored or whatever. Thus good RP has come from a potentially game session ruining situation.

Now that being said.. this does not apply to all situations.

Example of when this would not apply: X person has provoked a fight with Y person. Upon "finally" realizing that X cannot win the fight, X sends a Tell saying I don't want to fight.

This is a cheesy way of trying to get out of in game IC consequences of your actions and is not acceptable. Be prepared to finish what you start.

If this is done, then CvC and RP can be melded into a fun experience for all, and it gives those who don't want to be directly involved in Inter-PC/Race wars a chance to avoid being killed.

Remember, when dealing with other PCs, you have to keep in mind what will be fun for all involved, not just yourself.
