Talks that may or may not have anything to do with Hala or NWN

Elf and walking?

Post by medea-mpls »

I am running an elf and would like to hot key an option to walk. I did a search and cannot find any information on the topic, although I will admit I'm lousy at searches.

Can someone please advise?

Thanks! :D

What you are looking for is "detect mode". It's in the radial menu under special abilities and youcan add it to your quick slots. I think you can also hold down the shift key and walk.

Elves have "Keen Sense" which negates "detect mode". I know there's a way to make them walk, I just can't remember right now. Maybe someone who plays an elf can chime in.

*edit* Try these:
Click in front of your character with the mouse and hold the left mouse button down.
You will see an arrow appear which points in the direction you're going.
While still holding the mouse button down move the arrow closer to your character.
You will see the arrow shortens, and your character moves slower.
The closer the arrow is to your character the slower you move.
This can, however, cause severe right index finger distress after some time. But I find it can be good for navigating.

The other alternative is to go into options /controls/change key settings and check out your keyboard mapping. There is one in there called "Drive Mode Forward" which I have mapped to the letter W. Holding the key you have mapped to this down makes you walk rather than run.
OR-
Using the mouse:[/i]

Left click = Run
Shift & Left CLick = Walk

Using the keyboard:

Go into options and assign a key to the WALK command
Hope that helps. :D

You can assign a key under control options. I've set mine to "x" since i rarely walk without stealthing. You can assign it to something else, or remap all your keys to your liking.

Personally, I set mine to 'w' for run, 's' for walk and 'x' for back up, but that's me. It's wierd that they did not assign any default key to the walk mode. I guess they thought everyone would rather just run. The Shift Click for walking is also very nice for elves, because you can shift click on a distant point, and then type a conversation to your friend while your character is walking.
