How does Item Merging work?
Im interested in a bit of a run down on how the new holy items work. From what I see they work the following way:
I have a holy amulet that gives a +2 deflection bonus to AC. I use it on an amulet of natural armor +3 and the nat armor amulet disapers, I loos a tone of gold and my holy amulet is now +2 deflection and +3 natural armor
I have platemail +3 and a holy robe. I use the robe on the armor and now the robe has a +3 enhancement bonus, but still has the robes bace AC of 0
Is that how they work? They suck all the properties out of the target item and add them to the ones already posessed? If used again the adsorbed abilites are replaced with new ones.

From what I understand each time you adsorb an item, the properties you adsorbed from the last item are lost so you cant take the +2 from your +2 chainmail and the fire resistance from your copper plate and add them both to your robe, one will over write the other.

At a guess the something like a holy symbol will infact be named Holy Smbol of Zod. If you are a priest of Zod and a DM catches you without your holy symbol on Zod might smite you. Also there could be some base magic on the amulet, such as cast call lightning once a day.
So if you adsorbed another amulet, say wisdom +3, you would have a Holy symbol of zod that casts call ightning once per day and grants +3 wisdom.
Also the holy items are marked as plot and such, at least that is my reading of the merging.
I quite like the idea, as an example I have a special pair of gloves that represent Morgans claws, they give some extra damage. Unfortunatly I also have gloves that give a strength bonus, so I never wear morgans gloves. If the gloves had merging I could take the strehgth bonus from the gauntles and add them to the gloves.
The same thing could be done for various guild items that would be neat to wear but you ont because you have a more powerfull item that you just have to wear instead.

According to the news sticky, the only items with this property are holy items for the norse gods. I can see lots of fun uses for this and hope it can be applied to some existing stuff.

There is only one God and his name is Almara.heretic, there are no gods but the norse
He has a prophet too
The item merging makes sence it just sounded like the merger was for All ITEMS at first and didn't mention anything about it depending on which god you followed so I was just confused.

I couldn't tell if the two were related. Arkons initial post makes no mention of holy items, robes or gods. It looked like a run of the mill item merger.
On a note, robes don't seem too appropiate for norse gods. Armor or shields would be more intune with the aesir theme no?

It doesn't have anything to do with Arkons post.
Arkons post was about Item TRADE IN
Dunes was about Item MERGING
Completely different kettle of fish.
Merging is for Holy Robes and Symbols only.

New Robes and Holy Symbols
Those of you who play on Avlis will be familiar with the Item Merging property that's been written by liephus and Deider. New holy robes and symbols of the Aesir have been made with these merging properties on them; no other gods are currently covered by this.

Each and every one of those robes and holy symbols have a special ability that can be used unlimited times per day. When you have one of them on you can activate the ability and target a non plot item of the same type in your inventory. So you can target amulets for holy symbols and robes/armors for holy robes. When you do, you will lose gold equal to two times the toolset value of the targeted item and the item will disappear from your inventory. The holy robe/amulet will have absorbed all abilities and bonuses from the targeted item and will keep those along with the powers it already had. The new holy robe/item keeps its name and description and the only thing that really changes is that it now has the special abilities of the absorbed item. It is also plot so there is no longer fear of losing it or getting it looted after dying.
Keep in mind that if two items give the same type of bonus only the highest number will count. So if you merge an item that gives +5 to move silently with a holy item that gives +4 to move silently you will only receive a +5 bonus in total and not +9.
Important: You cannot keep adding abilities to a holy symbol or robe. Every time you merge a new item into one the old items properties will be lost (and so will the item) and only the new properties and the holy item's properties will be kept.
The gods this is for currently: Odin, Aegir, Baldr, Bragi, Forseti, Freyr, Freya, Heimdallr, Hel, Idun, Loki, Sif, Thor, Tyr, Uller.
The other properties of the items are based on the power of the individual gods. These items can be obtained by asking any DM nicely, so long as your worship the god in question.

Announcing the first, and likely only, Hala Item Trade-In.
In an effort to reduce the number of uber items that are floating around, with the re-establishing of the links, and in order to bring CoPaP back down towards the low magic setting it was meant to be in. We, the Hala Team, will be conducting an Item Trade in.
What this means is that you, the players, will have the opportunity to turn in your extra junk, in order to gain new, and/or customized items in return. This is an excellent opportunity to lessen the load you carry with you and have in your chests.
